SUMMER INTERNSHIP AT SCHLUMBERGER SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY CENTRE, PUNE
I am Yashasvi Kanchugantla, final year undergrad in the department of Computer Science and Engineering. I did my internship for 2018 summer in Schlumberger Software Technology Centre Pvt. Ltd, Pune.
SELECTION PROCEDURE :
Schlumberger interview process for Software profile was pretty candid. A preliminary CV shortlisting for the Group Discussion was done. The shortlists in the GD were allowed to attend a technical interview. The technical interview was based mostly on the projects mentioned in the resume and on questions in programming.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR IT?
After fairing in group discussion comes the technical interview.
● For most of the companies, decent coding skills are sufficient.
● You need to be good at problem-solving. Most of the interviews
test this skill. To improve upon problem-solving, doing questions
on geeks for geeks is necessary( Do as many problems as you
● You should be able to explain your projects to the interviewer. I
would suggest preparing a few points on each of the projects in
your resume. Also, emphasis on the challenges encountered and
the solutions in the interview are necessary.
Preparation for internships, in general:
● Try to code the problems while doing geeksforgeeks. Also, emphasize on thinking the solution and then, coding it.
● Practice using STL is recommended as that would reduce
the time taken to write the code.
● Try to solve problems in the stipulated time. Doing contests on
codeforces and monthly challenges on codechef help a lot.
● Also, do some probability and statistics. Few companies
expect you to be ready for it.
YOUR PROJECT DETAILS:
Interns are offered projects in various areas. There are projects on
algorithm design, machine learning models, microservices, UX design etc. The project allotment is based on your resume and the needs that are present in the company. Also sometimes, it is random.
I have worked on microservices. I had to change the architecture of a utility in one of the software the company delivers.
The company is huge and the people are very friendly. You get to
enjoy a lot. There are a lot of socials organized by the company for
interaction with the employees and within the interns. Team bonding is the best thing I have seen in Schlumberger. Its policies for Health, Safety are very enlightening. The teams have people working from other countries and, also teams consist of people from different offices of Schlumberger.
WHO SHOULD APPLY FOR THIS KIND OF INTERNSHIP?
It’s a place where anybody can be accommodated. But, if you are
expecting for some research experience, then this is not which you
should aim at.
YOUR ADVICE TO THEM :
Happy preparation 🙂
